Orangutan Ceramic Dish
Orangutan Ceramic Dish
Takeshi Matsunaga and Chie Takai, the husband and wife duo of Tokyo based textile design company Kata Kata, have teamed up with Classiky to create a range of whimsical, animal ceramic plates, known as mamezera or ‘bean dish’.
Kata Kata’s unique view of the world and the use of traditional Japanese screen printing technique, katazome, have created textile patterns of distinct animal characters – whales, orangutan, bears, cats, albatross, mandrill, bison and wolves, formed from simple hand drawn linework and a minimal colour palette. These patterns are then transferred to the ceramicware via the technique of inbante, a traditional copper plate transfer method. The Kata Kata team chose to use these traditional manual techniques to create character-filled and unique patterns, that can contain some irregularities such as blurring and colour unevenness in the pattern.
These adorable ceramic plates can be used as small trays to hold special items such as stationery or jewellery. The plates can also be used to serve food, like yummy treats with your tea or coffee. They’re sure to be a conversation starter at the table!
